Windows Printing
Windows printers are shared via the print server math-winserver.maths.bris.ac.uk , and are setup to map automatically for the School's Windows PCs.
Linux printing
All Linux printing is through a cups server cups.maths.bris.ac.uk. The server default is maps3. This may be changed by setting the environmental variable PRINTER to the apropraite printer name in your .bashrc file or equivalent.
The print command is lpr -P <printername> <postscript-filename> . If you need to print double-sided then the command is lpr -o sides=two-sided-long-edge -P <printername> <postscript-filename> . This is inconvenient so it is best to use an alias: add alias lpr2="lpr -o sides=two-sided-long-edge" to your .bashrc file or equivalent and you can then use the command lpr2 -P <printername> <postscript-filename> to print double sided.
Mac printing
Mac printing is through a cups server cups.maths.bris.ac.uk. The Printer names are as shown in the Linux printing section above. When setting up a printer use the following settings:
| Setting | Value |
| Protocol | Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) |
| Address | cups.maths.bris.ac.uk |
| Queue | printers/printer_name - eg printers/maps1-1 |
| Print Using | Generic PostScript Printer |
