Third Latin American SCAT Workshop

24 March 2008 to
28 March 2008

Contact Person: Dr Lorena Barba

Organisers: L. A. Barba (Bristol), Andre Nachbin, Marcus Sarkis, Jorge Zubelli (IMPA).

Description
The objective of this workshop is to bring together members of the SCAT project in Europe and Latin America with scientists in Brazil, to discuss the latest development in computer simulations of the weather, of wave phenomena, and problems related to the extraction from deep wells. These topics are of prime importance to the sustainable development of Brazil, and also showcase the strengths of scientific research in the country.

As in all SCAT events, the focus is on scientific research, and international collaboration. In this opportunity, examples of specific topics of interest include:

- fluid flow in porous media
- weather prediction using numerical models
- atmospheric wave phenomena
- meteorology, oceanography, hydrology
- multi-scale simulation of fluids
- rotating flows
- computational methods for nonlinear wave problems
- high-order numerical methods
- wave phenomena in biology
