Postgraduate Research Conference: Mathematical Billiards and Their Applications
21 June 2010 to
24 June 2010
Contact Person: Orestis Georgiou
Organisers: Orestis Georgiou, Carl Dettmann
Submission deadline: 30 April 2010
Description
Mathematical billiards represents one of the most popular and best understood classes of dynamical systems. Over the past 30 years, connections have been made with geometry, theoretical and mathematical physics, number theory, acoustics, optics, thermodynamics, spectral theory etc. Furthermore, mathematical billiards demonstrate a broad variety of behaviours including regular, chaotic and mixed phase space dynamics. This meeting aims to bring together UK based postgraduates in contact with this exciting field and re-introduce them to the building blocks of billiard theory via invited lectures, contributed talks and posters.
