ABSTRACT
In this talk I will introduce the concept of magnetic domains and domain
walls, and the partial differential equation (due to Landau and Lifshitz) governing their dynamics. I will then discuss recent results in which a perturbation theory method is applied to the problem of controlled domain wall motion in a magnetic nanowire.

The results include remarkably simple formulae for predicting the
important features of domain wall dynamics, in quite general physical
situations. The results have potential applications to proposed memory
devices, which use magnetic domains as bits of information.
