ABSTRACT
The classical localization theorem of Beilinson and Bernstein provides a powerful bridge between the representation theory of semisimple Lie algebras and the geometry of flag varieties. Geometrically, this appears to reflect very exceptional properties of these varieties, but recently by shifting to the microlocal perspective, a new "symplectic" theory is emerging. We will describe the classical set-up and survey some of the new results.
