Resources
You may find the following resources useful- The not so short introduction to LaTeX 2e by Tobias Oetiker, Hubert Partl, Irene Hyna and Elisabeth Schlegl.
- LaTeX: a document preparation system by Leslie Lamport (1986, Addison-Wesley).
- There are a couple of copies in the Queen's Building library under classmark Z253.4 L38.
- The help files of TeXnicCenter reproduce much of the information in this book, and are searchable.
Notes on computing
An alternative to TeXnicCenter is TeXworks. It does not need to be downloaded separately: it is included in the MiKTeX installation.
MiKTeX and TeXnicCenter are installed on the PCs in the Undergraduate Computing Lab. The first time you use TeXnicCenter you may find you need to follow the instructions in step C of the Installation guide. Please note a small difference: the path you must enter is
C:\Program Files (x86)\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex\bin
The Undergraduate Computing Lab PCs have Adobe Reader X installed, so you will need to follow the procedure set out at the end of the installation guide.
The installation guide above is directed towards Windows users. Apple Mac users can download MacTeX instead of MiKTeX and use TeXworks, which is included in the MacTeX installation, instead of TeXnicCenter.
