Lecture Courses, Seminars, Reading Groups and Conferences
I attend various courses during my studies, both within the University of Bristol, and beyond.
Algebraic Geometry Reading Group: Last year I started up an informal reading group for PhD students who want to learn some of the basic ideas from elementary Algebraic Geometry. Each week we take it in turns to lecture on a particular topic, and it has proved so far to be a great success. Lee Butler, my (favourite) academic brother, has listed some of the notes from the reading group on his webpage.
Taught Course Centre: The TCC is a joint venture between the universities of Bristol, Bath, Oxford, Imperial and Warwick, providing graduate-level lecture courses via the internet. Through the TCC I have attended courses in Homological Algebra, Arithmetic of Curves of Higher Genus, L-Functions and Modular Forms.
Heilbronn Seminar: Run jointly by the University of Bristol and the Heilbronn Institute, the Heilbronn seminar is Bristol's weekly number theory seminar.
ANTS VIII: I was in attendance at the Eighth Algorithmic Number Theory Symposium in May 2008 in Banff, Canada.
Arithmetic Geometry: From 28th August to 1st September 2006, I attended the LMS/EPRSC Short Course: Topics in Arithmetic Geometry in King's College, London.
