Personal
I was born and raised in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, home town of Adam Smith, the economist, and Gordon Brown, the prime minister.
In 2002, I moved to Edinburgh to begin my four-year degree in Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. I graduated with first class honours in 2006, and moved to Bristol to begin my PhD studies under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Pila.
In my free time, I enjoy playing music. I play piano, trombone and clarinet, and was a member of both the Edinburgh University Brass Band and the Edinburgh University Wind Band, where I met my boyfriend, Hamish, who is also a Mathematics student!
I also love to learn languages. I am fairly competent in German, can read a bit of Latin, have obtained a BSL 1 certificate in British Sign Language, and am thoroughly enjoying studying Dutch in preparation for moving to The Netherlands in August.
