We shall be giving informal lectures on various parts of algebra. These will usually be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5pm in lecture room SM1. I'll try to keep this page up to date by specifying a week in advance who is lecturing and approximately what they will be lecturing on. Anyone is welcome to attend; these lectures are intended for the graduate students who have recently arrived in Bristol and so their content is likely to be extremely informal together with advice about where to look for more detailed treatment.

I will begin on Wednesday 10th October whilst one of Jeremy Rickard and Jo Chuang will begin on Thursday 11th October.

An introduction to ring theory

5pm 10.10.02 SM1 Aidan Schofield

Rings and modules. Projective modules. Morita theory. Examples of rings, modules and projective modules. The free algebra, the path algebra of a quiver. Modules as functors. Anything else I think I can get away with.
