The Fluids and Materials group journal club
- Every PhD student in the group delivers one talk
of 40 min + 10 min discussion per semester - if for
assessment, it needs to be on a journal article.
If not, it can be either on a journal article or the student's
own research. The advisor is responsible for the choice
of subject.
- To gain credit for one semester, a student delivers
one talk on a research paper, and writes a summary of
one A4 page on her presentation. In addition, the student writes
one A4 page on one of the OTHER student's talks of her choice.
To that end, the student will have to read the paper herself,
and deliver a critique of the talk as necessary.
This will be the equivalent of 10 hours per semester.
- Students choose a subject and a date for their talk
at the beginning of the semester, so other students can
decide which talk to report on.
- The presentation itself, and the summaries are assessed
on a pass-fail basis. This is done by Profs. Rich Kerswell,
Tannie Liverpool, and Jens Eggers.
