I am a PhD student at the maths department of The University of Bristol under the supervision of Prof Joe Chuang and Prof Jeremy Rickard. I'm studying pure maths, more specifically, algebra and representation theory, often with a homological flavour. I am also interested in category theory, algebraic geometry and categorification. I obtained my undergraduate degree, an MMath in Mathematics, from the maths department of The University of Manchester.
My officemate, and academic brother, is Tony. I've previously shared offices with Rob D, Rob H, Mike, Henrik, Tony, A, Andrew, Laura, Fabien, Claudio, and Barnaby.
Teaching
I am not taking any tutorials this year, but in previous years I have given tutorials in Analysis, Further Topics in Analysis, Number Theory and Group Theory, Linear Algebra and Geometry, and Multivariable Calculus.
I give private tutoring to students: I have previously tutored students in the above courses, and in Group Theory.
Seminars
I organise the Category Theory Working Seminar.
I regularly attend the Algebra and Geometry seminar here at Bristol during term-time, as well as the Postgraduate Algebraic Geometry working group. We occasionally have other seminars, which are usually advertised on the department webpage.
Publications
I have no publications yet, but am currently working on a paper about autoequivalences of derived categories.
Conferences
I was recently in Leicester for the LMS Regional Meeting and the Workshop on Derived Categories from the 16th to 19th of September, and in London for the EPSRC/LMS short course on Derived Categories and Applications from 7-11 September. I attended the Fields Institute Summer School in Geometric Representation Theory and Extended Affine Lie Algebras for the last two weeks of June, and the Categorification and Geometrisation from Representation Theory workshop in April 2009, which is part of the Isaac Newton Institute programme in Algebraic Lie Theory. In January 2009 I attended the Instructional Workshop as part of the same programme.
I attended previous BLOC meetings, and intend to attend upcoming meetings.
In 2008 I attended the LieGrits Workshop at Oxford University, the Introductory Workshops on Combinatorial Representation Theory and the Representation Theory of Finite Groups at the MSRI in Berkley, California, and the Postgraduate Group Theory Conference at Oxford in April. I also attended the summer school in Geometric Methods in Represenation theory held by the Institut Fourier at the University of Grenoble, France, and the EPSRC/LMS short course on Algebraic Groups in Birmingham.
