My research
My research is in Riemann-Hilbert Theory, and generally calculating Partition functions using Riemann-Hilbert methods. This is a powerful analytic tool to calculate asymptotically certain averages, partition functions and determinants. It is really useful in Random Matrix Theory and Statistical Mechanics, and the general idea is to construct a function from knowing only the location of the branch points, the behaviour near these points and the behaviour at infinity. It's a similar concept to calculating an integral using its residues.
Last year I was looking at the asymptotic properties of an average over the Circular Unitary Ensemble, but since then I've moved over to more 'physical' problems involving the entropy of quantum spin chains.
