Proposed Ph.D. projects:

I am interested in the mathematical study of the interaction of waves with structures in the context of gravity waves (e.g. water waves), acoustics, elasticity, and electromagnetics.

A list of my proposed research projects can be found either here or in the Applied Postgraduate Handbook

Past students:

  • Geoff Chapman has just completed his PhD within 3 years. The title of his project is "A weakly-singular integral equation approach for water wave problems". In it, Goeff considered a number of different and increasingly complex problems associated with the interaction of surface-gravity water waves with varying bedforms. In the early part of the project, he looks at the first and second order terms in the perturbation expansion in steepness for the water wave equations for the sloshing of waves in a rectangular tank. The remainder of the thesis is concerned with developing a new three-dimensional theory for wave scattering by arbitrary bed topography which extends in a non-obvious direction previous work involving 2D scattering.
