MINGLE 2012 will represent the fourth year that the department of mathematics at the university of Bristol has held a welcome conference for its new and old postgraduate students alike to commence the year. Following on from the previously successful events in the past three years we hope to replicate this success and encourage as many postgraduates in Bristol mathematics department to take part in whatever capacity they wish. Differing from the three previous conferences, MINGLE 2012 will be held in a exciting new venue. The Bristol Zoo Gardens will provide a fabulous backdrop for what should be a great conference to start the year. See the location page for more details.
The maths students of the University of Bristol are now spread across just two buildings, the main maths building and Howard House, where previously this was eight or nine locations. However, it remains important to get to know fellow mathematicians from all research areas, as you never know when you might need their help! Seminars will help you meet fellow mathematicians in your own research group. The MINGLE conferences have increased cross group networking and long may it continue.
The conference will comprise of a series of fifteen-twenty minute talks by postgraduate students from all areas of the department interspersed with plenty of tea and coffee breaks, a buffet lunch as well as a three course evening meal. This provides plenty of opportunities to talk to your fellow maths students and discuss the series of talks and posters on display or simply just to get to know people. MINGLE 2012 gives a rare opportunity to see the research going on across the entire department with the talks being suitably introductory so that they are accessible to everyone. Not only that but this is all paid for by the department of maths, giving a great incentive for everyone to participate!
