FAQS
- Where will the conference take place? The conference is being held in the Queen's Building on University Walk (the blue pin on the map). The conference begins at 11am with a Welcome Talk in the Pugsley Lecture Theatre, Room 40. All talks are held in rooms on the first floor (look at the schedule to see the precise location of each talk). The registration desk will be in the main foyer, just through the front doors.
- When will the conference start and when will it finish? The conference begins on Monday April 1 at 11am with a Welcome Talk. It will finish at 2pm on Wednesday April, 4.
- How long do the talks last? Contributed talk will be 25 minutes long, followed by 5 minutes for questions and a 5 minute break. Keynote talks will be a hour long, including some time for the questions.
- What facilities are available in the talk rooms? All rooms have whiteboards, computers, slide projectors and overhead projectors available, but these may need to be set up in advance. For slideshows it is easiest if you can transfer the slides on a USB stick to the computer already set up in the room, but you can also plug in your own laptop to the projector if you wish.
- What is the plan for the meals? Lunches will be provided in the Central Design Office (in the Queen's Building) every day. On Monday evening there will be a wine reception provided by the Heilbronn Institute beginning at 6:30pm in the Maths Building, just down the road from the Queen's Building (the wine glass on the map). A buffet dinner will begin at 8pm in the RWA. No drinks will be provided at the RWA, and participants should bring drinks of their own; there is a large Sainsbury's a couple of minutes walk away on Queen's Road. On Tuesday evening the Conference Dinner will be held at the Bristol Museum at 7pm.
- Will there be tea and coffee available? Tea and coffee will be provided in the Central Design Office in each break and from 9-11 on Monday morning. It will not be provided before 9am on any other day.
- How can I connect to the internet? Wireless internet is available for free in the Queen's Building. The easiest way is through Eduroam, which you should set up at your own university before you leave; see this page for details. If you will want to use wireless but Eduroam is unavailable, please email us and we will make alternative arrangements.
- What hotel am I staying in? Accommodation that has been reserved through the YRM committee is in one of three nearby hotels: the Washington Hotel, the Clifton Hotel or the Clifton House Hotel, all marked on the map. To find out which hotel you are staying in, please see this list and find your name. If you arrive before the conference on Sunday, you can head straight to the hotel and check in from 2pm. If you arrive after the start of the conference, you can check in after 2pm on Monday and we will have parties leaving from the Queens Building to the three hotels both at break and before the wine reception on Monday. There will be a space in the Queens Building to temporarily store your luggage. You must check out of the hotels by 11am on the last day of your stay.
- Where can I park my car? We recommend that you travel by public transport. There will be no car parking available at the university; if you are staying in one of the hotels we have arranged then they may have car parking available, but we recommend that you phone ahead and check.
