Topics in modern geometry

In Autumn 2019 I am teaching the first half of the Topics in Modern Geometry unit at the University of Bristol. The second half will be taught be Rhiannon Dougall. The Maths Café sessions will be led by Harry Petyt.

Course materials will be uploaded here as the course progresses.

Information on how the course will be assessed can be found here.

Here is a handout covering administrative and logistical information about the course.

Here are the notes for my half of the course. I expect to make some changes to these as the lectures progress in order to ensure that the notes are as consistent as possible with what I've said.

Here is the first problem sheet for the course. Answers to the assessed exercises were due at midday on the 14th of October. Question 3 has been corrected: it previously referred to hyperbolic distances, where they should be Euclidean.

Here is the second problem sheet, which was due at midday on the 21st of October.

Here are solutions for the assessed questions on the first two problem sheets. I am happy to write model solutions for any of the other questions upon demand.

My Office Hour is 2.30pm on Fridays in room 1.20 in the Fry Building. Do come along!
