A new Maths building is on its way, but in the mean time the postgraduate students of Bristol University's Mathematics Department are separated by an immeasurable gulf. Actually we're separated by a short walk, but that's beside the point. To ask a pure mathematician to make a short (uphill!) walk just to see what the devilish statisticians are up to would be folly. And similarly for any other two elements of the set of maths groups.

But wait!

The MINGLE conference strives to change all this. A series of twenty minute talks by students from all areas of the department will be liberally scattered across the day. Interspersed with these will be opportunities to mull over various poster presentations and chat with their creators, not to mention free food and drink - both lunch and tea! Not only will you get to see what research is actually being done by students in the other groups, you will also get a rare opportunity to discuss ideas and make friends with these students.

Through this event it is hoped that bonds unbreakable shall be forged. Mayhap you'll discover that someone else's research intersects beautifully with yours and write your first collaborative paper. Or maybe you'll find out you're not the only person in the department who enjoys playing the shakuhachi. Either way, everyone should make use of this too rare chance to mingle with their fellow mathematicians.
